Could Nvidia Boost 3.0 raise a power draw issue on Zotac gtx 1060 mini with custom cooler?

I just recently built a PC, and thanks to the cryptocurrency mining hype, I am only able to get my hands on Zotac GTX 1060 Mini 6gb.

I know this card is not designed to be overclocked. Normally, 1060s with aftermarket coolers would have 8 pins, but this mini card only have one 6-pins power connector, and so the maximum power this card could draw would be around 150w (75 from connector, 75 from pci slot).

As it turns out, this card runs hot. It runs at 83c (throttling point) at 100% speed fan. Uncomfortable with the temperature, I bought an Arctic Accelero Mono Plus (custom GPU air-cooler) after seeing its positive reviews.

Ok now I also recently just learned about the new auto-overclock technology on Pascal cards (Nvidia Boost 3.0). Now on the stock cooler, it does not give much headroom for the boost because the temperature would reach the throttling point anyway before the boost reach its maximum potential.

However, on the Accelero Mono, I imagine that it would remove the temperature constraint. This means that the card could now be auto-overclocked way further than the stock cooler, which means more power draw. My concern is that the Nvidia boost would auto-overclock this card until it draws more than 150 wattage of power, frying my PCI slot and power connectors.

To my knowledge, 1060 card is rated 120w TDP, meaning at 100% TDP, the ward would draw 120w. When this card is boosted, however, the TDP would go up beyond 100%. This means that if this card reached more than 125% of TDP, it would draw more power than it was allowed.

Should I worry about this? Would it be realistic to say that there is a possibility of Nvidia Boost auto-overclock my GPU beyond 125% TDP now that the temperature constraint is removed? If so, how can I prevent it from frying my pci & connectors?

all it means is the boost will be the max allowed by voltage ~1.9 - ~2.1

and not drop because you have removed the throttling point by having better cooling

you dont magically have unlimited boost speeds

you need a bios mod and water for that XD

if you are concerned by power draw, simply lower the power target

Oh, good to know that power draw wouldn't be my constraint. If voltage is the constraint, does that mean all other gtx 1060 with dual/triple fan that has 8-pin connectors is overkill? I mean 6 pin is enough as the power draw wont reach more that 130w anyway right?

Sorry if the question seems stupid. its just i never tinkered with electronics before.

that is correct, all 1060's with a decent cooler behave basically the same

the 8-pin versions would be better only when people mod the bios to remove voltage limitations and overclock down the line
