Hi there! i'm new to this site, i signed up here just to ask for a little bit of help so i would much appreciate if any of you could help me with this. I have 2 sticks of ram, 4gb and 2gb, i used them both but only the 4gb is picked up. i tried removing both and using one stick at a time on each slot, turns out that one ram slot is not working properly. i went to another site, asked them why that happens and they said i have a dual channel motherboard so i have to get 2 rams that are the same voltage and are exactly the same so it works properly, but i still dont get why one ram slot works and the other one doesnt. and one last thing, if i had a ram stick thats exactly the same as the one of 4gb that i have now will it work fine or will i have to buy a new kit? please help me, in case you need more i screenshotted both rams on CPU-Z

RAM Slot 2 :https://prnt.sc/ge0rqc

My mobo is a asus m5a78l-m lx
gpu is gtx 750ti
cpu is athlon x4 3.30ghz
hdd 500gb

thank you very much in advance

Your motherboard supports dual channel.

Rules to enable dual-channel mode
To achieve dual-channel mode, the following conditions must be met:
Same memory size. Examples: 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB.
Matched DIMM configuration in each channel.
Matched in symmetrical memory slots.

Configurations that do not match the above conditions revert to single-channel mode

So since you are carrying one 4gb and one 2gb, it will be working with one ram. Better buy a similar ram with matches the 4gb exactly for avoiding any compatibility issues and you are good.

Good Luck.:) Peace.

But the 2gb ram works alone if i put it in the 4gb slot. is that normal?

And also when i put the 4gb ram on the slot that doesnt work, it doesnt pick it up. it only works in one of hte two slots, is that normal?

Are you saying that you have inserted both the ram and just swapped the slots for 2gb ram with 4gb ram?

Peace.

So, i have 2 slots of ram. i tried using both at the same time, it didnt work. only one slot worked, i tried removing both and using them alone once at a time first in one slot and then in the other one, turned out that only one picked up the ram the other didnt read the ram it didnt even let me boot the pc up, black screen and the slot worked with both of them the 2gb and the 4gb stick

Try Increasing DRAM Voltage by 0.05.
Check for bent pins under the cpu and check if the CPU is mounted evenly.

Peace.

Tried to do everything, even changed the thermal paste since it was soo old like 4 years, checked for pins and none were bent. im actually scared now cuz if i buy the 4gb of ram and it doesnt work.. :/

You think its just the dual channel system that forces to get 2 same stick of rams to make it work both properly? idk

MERGED QUESTION
Question from giutartezy : "Another ram problem thread"

Hello so im making another post cause i just bought 4gb of ram and im waiting for it. if u've seen my last post, i have 2 ram slots, one works and the other one didnt work, or atleast thats what i thought till i discovered that my mobo is dual channel only so i have to use 2 same sticks for it to work properly, so i just bought a 4gb stick that is exactly the same as the one i have right now. the problem? i tried the 4gb stick that i have rn in each of the ram slots and turns out that one of them doesnt pick it up. same for the 2gb. is that normal thing for a dual channel to do? maybe it needs 2 of the same for it to make both work? or is it a mobo problem? anyway its too late i already ordered ram + an ssd so hopefully it will work, just tell me if thats a normal thing so i dont have to buy another mobo x) in case u need this, here is my 2 ram slots on CPU-Z

https://prnt.sc/ge0rjn
https://prnt.sc/ge0rqc

As u can see the mobo picks them up both, but obviously one of them ( the 2gb one ) wont work since its dual channel and not single, but still i dont get why one ram slot doesnt pick any ram but the other one picks both. anyway, thank u in advance, have a good day
