I just got a new laptop Asus x540YA. Specs are as follows:

AMD A8 7410 with R5 Graphics (APU)
4GB 1600Mhz RAM
1TB Toshiba MQ01ABD100 HDD

Out of the 4gb ram, I have 592 mb hardware reserved ram. On the first day of the usage, I found the laptop to freeze for 4-5 seconds. Since that time, it has stuttered a very few times but I couldn't help but find out the cause. I got until this point: I am getting hard faults ranging from 0 to 1000 as soon as I open something or when something is in use and disk queue length goes very high too, near 10 almost everytime I open an application and sometimes near 30.(something heavy like android studio, otherwise it is uptil 10-15). When nothing is being opened up, for eg. while I am typing this, it isn't showing any hard faults. I can't help but wonder if this is a problem with my HDD or is it because of hardware reserved memory. Also, why does resource monitor say 68% memory used when I have 0 mb free(though I have plenty in Standby). Please Help. Also if my config is low, should I buy a better laptop?

Solution

The first would be probably random small read related, it's much much slower than sequential reads. The second is down to Windows memory management, and 4GB is just on the edge usefulness.

but why is my hard showing 100% disk time as soon as it hits 1 or 2mB/s while it has capability to go all the way till 70mB/s and what about the hardware reserved memory
