Hello everyone, I recently had my Asus laptop's motherboard die. I have a desktop that I would like to run off of the HDD from the laptop until I can get a new one. I have attempted to connect the drive via a cage and a direct sata setup. The BIOS recognized the drive both times but would not boot and told me to change the selected boot device or reconnect it. I have a sabertooth x58 motherboard

Solution

You need to install the drive internally, AND install a new OS.

1. A drive and OS that was in a laptop will almost never boot up if connected to a desktop.

2. 'cage and direct sata' ? Please describe.
(Won't make it any more likely to boot up, but just for info)
