Need Build Advice $1500 Budget

Hey All,

I'm looking to make a build mostly for gaming, I play mostly League of Legends and various steam games. I had a gaming laptop but it's on it's last legs and it's about time I get an actual system. So I pretty much need everything (except mouse). I would like to run pretty much any game without worry.

This is a current build that I came up with after some research, it's a little over budget so I wanted some advice on where I can cut cost without losing performance or where I can improve within budget.

This build is without OS, and disk drive, I am aware of this.

Alternately if you want to hang around that same price range I would suggest going with an AMD R5-1600X and an X370 board. It's kind of a bad time to be buying Intel right now because there will be a new platform within a month or two. If you want to buy Intel this is one time when I actually would suggest waiting. AMD on the other hand is a safe bet because the R5-1600X matches the i5 on most everything right now and will provide a lot of upgrade potential with X370.

A few notes- you do not have a G-Sync monitor. A 1060 may struggle to hit 144hz on max settings even in...

A few changes:

DDR4 3000 to DDR4 2400- You're saving around 30 bucks. With Intel chips DDR4-3000 is minimal improvement for a pretty hefty premium.

M.2 drive to 250GB and HDD- Shaving about $60 here. The only thing M.2 gives you is super fast boots. If you're insistent on having all your storage being soild state then go with a cheaper sata drive.

7700k to 7600k- a 7600k is still a monster chip, and with you playing only LOL it should have no trouble hitting the 144hz target. This saves around $100.

A few notes- you do not have a G-Sync monitor. A 1060 may struggle to hit 144hz on max settings even in LOL, and anything below 144hz will look terrible on a non- G-Sync display. Consider investing in a 1070 for $120 more or getting a G-Sync monitor. Also, if your other games have trouble getting up to 144hz they will look terrible as well.

This also isn't really a good time to be buying a new GPU either. Coin miners destroyed stocks of AMD RX-580s and GTX 1060s and 1070s. If you want to do 144Hz I'd wait for the Vega 56s to come in stock once the non reference coolers from MSI, Asus, etc are available. Or you can wait for NVIDIA's new Volta platform which should be soon.

For me personally I would agree, but OP seems ready to build now.

The 1600x with X370 isn't a terrible option but I wouldn't trust it for 144hz gaming.
