Hey everyone, I currently have an issue with my 8 pin connector on my motherboard. My PC randomly switched off yesterday and wouldn't turn back on. I unplugged all the power, held down the power switch for 20 secs, then reconnected the power, but it just flashes a little power and then is dead again. Sooo, I started unplugging components. I have figured that the PC now turns on with full power without my 8 pin motherboard wire connected but I have no graphics on my monitor, so this must be the area with an issue, anyone got any ideas please?

Update1: I've just removed the CPU and it is powering up with the 8 pin connector in now, starting to fear the worse :(

Update2: So, whenever I add the 8 pin to power my cpu, I get a flash of power and then its dead, until I clear all the power by holding the power button for 20 secs, then it repeats. I have had this issue with this PC about 1 year ago, I remember giving up and leaving it for 3 days, then randoming hitting the power button and it magically working again. I have no idea what is going on here, it is obviously an issue with my CPU, I have tried reseating the CPU is no luck and resetting the CMOS jumper.

Update3: Still no power when the CPU is installed, powers up perfectly without CPU or when I remove the motherboards 8 pin. Is this the end for my CPU or is it my motherboard? could really do with some help here guys :(

Solution
After a little troubleshooting I have found the problem, the CPU socket was short circuiting the PC, I took off the AM3+ CPU bracket and carefully cleaned the connectors, a few months ago my motherboard suffered some water damage but I managed to dry it out, although I didn't think the CPU socket was affected, turns out it is. all sorted now :)
Removing the motherboards 8 pin power connector disconnects power from CPU. It would allow motherboard to receive power to run fans if 24-pin connector is installed.

What are the part number(s) are your memory that you are using? Maybe you have a link to it.
