GTX 780 ti vs GTX 960 2GB?

I have a friend with a EVGA GTX 780 ti SC who is currently wanting to swap with my EVGA GTX 960 SSC 2GB and I am wanting to know if it is worth it.

Apparently, the reason he is wanting to swap is because he wants a 9xx series card. He has not overclocked it, but has had the power, voltage and temp limits on MSI Afterburner maxed.

Would it be worth swapping? I am seriously considering it.

My current PC Specs are in my signature and my current monitors are a AOC 20inch 1600x900 and a HP 19inch 1280x1024. I am going to be swapping my 1600x900 for a 25inch 2560x1080 soon however.

Many thanks,

- Joe

I get about 1160mhz out of my pair(one is a bit better than the other, but they're both stable at about 1160). I don't recall what stock speed is, but I know it's less than 1000 mhz. I get about 240 mhz additional on the vram. Could be why I could beat 980sli rigs in firestrike. Tinkering with the overboost is worth a little, and if you can keep the system cool, it won't cost you much in the way of lifespan. Further, the 3gb of vram on the 780ti isn't going to be sufficient for many new titles in the coming years, so it will have to be replaced at some point. But, the 3gb is more than the 2gb, so it's still better.

Well, I've got a EVGA SuperNOVA 750w G2 which I believe is plenty.

And you sure it is worth it? Even with the card being a generation older?

Essentially 970 performance .
Definitely worth it.
Will still power a 2560x1080 uws at medium/high settings & do a good job.

A 960 2gb would struggle badly at that resolution .

Is swap it in an instant if you know that card has been looked after fairly well (increasing power/voltage limits does nothing detrimental - only overclocking does)

What do you mean by "overboosting" You mean overclocking?

Yea, I know this card has been looked after. I believe he has done a system strip-clean-rebuild about once every 6 months.

Also, doesn't EVGA have a transferable warranty? I believe his GPU still had something like 1 year warranty left, because he said that he would be willing to transfer the warranty if I do the same.

----

Also, we're all in agreement that me swapping my EVGA GTX 960 SSC 2GB with a EVGA GTX 780 ti SC is a good idea? Like, there is no downside other than having less warranty and having a older generation card. Right?

None at all , its hands down a MUCH better card

It is closer to a 970 than a 980 though when it comes to modern gaming.

It benched better than the 970 in 3dmark but then lost when it came to actual gaming in the majority of titles.(not by much though 3-4% at most).

Ah, gotcha. Kinda like how my 960 with it's maxed Power, Temp and Voltage limits maxed, with a overclock added... It runs at a 100% stable 1500 MHz, but that is only with a 58MHz OC added. (Anymore and it crashes) and it is able to reach 1500MHz because it has plenty of power available and the temps never go above 65'c. (Air temp is between 20-25'c)

Do you think it'll be worth overclocking it when I get it? Or just leave it with it's boosted settings?

So, going from my 960 to the 780 ti will gimme 3-4% less gaming performance when compared to a 970? That doesn't sound like much of a increase in gaming performance.

So, I should be able to overclock it nicely as my rig never gets warm, and I won't be having 2 in SLI.

And you sure 3GB VRAM won't be enough for at 2560x1080? Or even my current 1600x900? I don't seam to struggle to badly with my 2GB I don't think.

Yeah, he is tech savvy actually. Only thing is, he doesn't do much gaming and he uses his PC for work applications (Don't ask which ones, as I dunno) and he is saying that swapping GPUs wouldn't slow his work output, but actually increase it. Apparently the software he uses works better on GTX 9xx series better.

Good to know. And you 100% sure 3GB VRAM will be enough for 2560x1080 gaming?
Also, the 780 ti should have enough horse power to game at that, right? Games I mostly play currently are BF1, PUBG and GTA:V.

I shouldn't loose any frames going from a 960 to a 780 ti, right? I run at a V-Sync 60FPS currently but I ensure that I am right on the edge of 60FPS (GPU Usage 90+%)
