I just got my Asus STRIX 1070 OC, and the driver from the Asus website is version 372 (september/16), while the driver from the Nvidia website is version 385 (august/17).

of course it's more logic to install the most recent driver, but why would the manufacturer keep a so outdated driver in his website?

Which one should I install?

Some vendors, like Asus, will tailor the drivers with stuff like fan curves to get more optimized performance specific to the card. Best bet is to install the Asus drivers first, then update to the nvidia. Nvidia core drivers are all the same, it's only additions like game optimizations or adding new gen cards to gpu bios that makes for updates, so either will work fine unless you have a new released game, which only nvidia might have optimized so far.
You should install the nVidia website driver.
Most likely Asus just didn't bother to update it.
ASUS might have a secondary app to control some extra features, but the driver should always come from the official nVidia page (or geforce experience)
