Advice re new build to get faster pc and better rendering times. Asus Maximus VII to IX and new chip.

I currently have a Maximus VII hero, 32 gb DDR 3 ram, i7 4770 chip and a Samsung SSD 960 pro 512gb.

I use this mainly for Lightroom and photoshop. Rendering in lightroom, seems to have actually slowed down since I changed my SSD to the new m.2 drive. Apparently, from what I have read, this board can't take advantage of the m.2 very much so it runs at half speed. Benchmarking is 50/100 for the rig, and much lower for the hard drive performance. 15/100.

So, I was thinking, Maximus IX hero, 32 DDR 4 ram, i7 7700K and the M.2 drive. Am I right in thinking this will speed up rendering a little, but allow my computer to run much faster as it will take full advantage of the M.2 drive? Or is the increase in speed not worth the upgrade cost, (around £900/$1200). I basically want a fast computer, and better rendering times.

Or are there any other things I need to look at to increase rendering times? (I have read most of Lightroom's suggestions and followed them already).

Many thanks

I meant to say for your build needs if you do go with a new CPU platform...Ryzen will give you more bang for your buck...especially if you get an 8C/16T version. Hands down that would destroy your current set-up or even the i7 7700K. In gaming though the i7 7700k would win.

You can get M.2 working full speed on your board though you have to mod the bios if you want to boot from it (usually). I run the same drive on my i7 3930K at full speed using a modded bios. It was a large step up from a samsung 850 evo ;) Also did you load the NVMe drivers?

Many thanks. Yes I did load the drivers, originally used the Samsung software to transfer over then updated the drivers. I was thinking of doing a complete reinstall in case that makes a difference. When you say Modify the Bios, in what way other then the normal stuff of getting it to find and boot from the M.2?

Why not get a ryzen? They have more pci-e lanes (prevent a bottleneck if you ever were to run out due to to many m.2 drives, gpu's,...) and and 8 core ryzen performs much better in lightroom than any i7 on the consumer end.

Yes just being looking up 8 core with lightroom and you have a very good point. I used to do gaming but never have the time these days, so Ryzen may well be a better idea if I do change the cpu. Thank you very much.
