Hello ,this is my first time posting on the forums so i hope all info is on point, i have few questions regarding RAM and system stability in general

1.I currently have 1 memory stick of kingston 4gb hyperx ddr3 1866 mhz, if i buy 2x4gb of those same sticks will they work as 12gb or should i just put in the new 2x4gb and take out the single stick?

2. I have been getting crashes in game(spec DOTA2) about every 1-2 games when my whole system would just freeze ,like totally freeze no response no sound nothing, i have done diagnostic on RAM(memtest) and on my cpu(intel diagnostic tool) and did stability test with both cpu and gpu, it seems all is working fine ,is it possible that those freezing are caused by my lack of memory, memory reaching 100% of capacity and simply freezing,in idle mode memory usage is about 30% so im just checking that posibility

3. The freezes only happen when im gaming and when checking my event log it seems there isnt an explanation what happened, however i im having alot of corrected machine check warning in my event log, i did my research and people usually say its because of overclocking that causes the system to be unstable, but my system isnt overclocked in any way, and i did stability checks with all kinds of programs and everything seemed to work.

4. For a while i thought the problems were caused by overheating but after carefully watching all my temps under load that doesnt seem to be problem

tldr: i think my ram somehow is causing my system to fail under load, if anyone has any other suggestion pls step forward,i have been trying to solve the problem for past 8 months :??:.

My specs:
Windows 8.1 x64
Sapphire AMD 270x 2gb dual x
kingston hyperx 4gb 1866mhz ddr3
thermaltake smart630w 80+
intel 3470 3.2ghz
asrock z77 pro4 MB

You mentioned looking into event viewer. For the critical errors that happen at the time of the freeze, what are the eventIDs and what is the exact message? If you can post a screenshot of the error once you pull it up from an event viewer, that's also good.
