hard drive mounts, then dismounts in USB dock

I have two Seagate drives from a LacIe NAS which were mirrored. The NAS won't connect to the network anymore, and I'm trying to recover the data. When in the NAS, the drive lights blink, but then go dark. When I put either of the drives in my USB doc (Blacx), they mount and are shown in device manager, but then before I can do anything with them, they dismount. I have a few recovery tools to try, but none of them can see the drive except sometimes for the brief time that it is mounted.
Any idea what is causing this? I tried turning off USB 3.0 sleep mode without success.
Thanks.
John

*Way* out of warranty, but thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks. I'm thinking it really can't be the drive since the same behavior happens with both of them. Could be the dock. I ordered another one since it seems like they have changed a lot for USB 3.0. If no luck with that, I'm going to try them internal using Ubuntu.

More when i have it...

Yes, have done the factory default procedure on the NAS without luck. Backing up the data using a dock is what I'm trying to do that led to this question.
Thanks.

New USB dock did not resolve the issue, nor did putting the drives in a PC and attempting to mount with Linux. At some point in the troubleshooting, the drives stopped mounting altogether. According to recovery places, one drive has a bad head and the other has corrupted firmware.

Moral of the story, mirrored drives might be nice to protect against a single hard drive failure, but there are definitely things that can make the data no longer accessible. Make sure you back up frequently even from mirrored drives.
