Do updated amd graphics drivers increase cpu usage? For example would a driver for an rx480 in 2017 cause higher cpu usage than a driver from 2016? this topic is literally non existent on the internet

Solution
The Driver it's self wont use to much processing power, but it could drive CPU use up if you update a driver and it improves game performance, allowing the game to use more GPU which means the CPU will have to do more work to feed the graphics card information.

That's the same with Dual graphics card set ups, GTA5 on one of my 780ti's, my 5820k was sitting around 40% CPU usage, Enabled the 2nd 780ti, CPU usage shot up to 60%, the more GPU power you have, the more information the CPU needs to feed the cards in DX11 or older.

DX12 will change how the CPU/GPU work with each other.

Basically graphics card driver update will be a fix or an improvement in optimizing your graphic card. So
Different driver versions can introduce stability problems fix etc. And the CPU usage directly depends on the application you are using.
So unless you see in the release notes for that driver, you never know what the driver update is for.

Peace.

Will it increase usage not having the driver installed yes but by such a tiny ammount
As for different versions some may use more or less CPU power but again the difference shouldn't be noticeable
