The hardware in question is a Seagate laptop sshd 1tb

So recently I tried to turn on my pc(windows 8.1) - and I got the disk read error occurred screen.
Thus far researching solutions... I have tried the following

Reset BIOS to default - No change. BIOS lists the drive as default boot so it seems to be recognized by BIOS however...

Access cmd prompt with a usb installation tool and using bootrec - it seems like windows does not see the drive,
It only has C: (The usb tool) and X: (which is labelled windows) Neither is the my main drive with the 1tb storage. I suspect this is why bootrec does nothing for me as well after trying it

Then I got a external enclosure to connect the drive to my laptop to at least see if I can transfer files off it and it is also not showing up as a drive when I connect it via usb. Nothing disk management also.

.I am currently stumped and seek the advice of some professionals... I would to be able to restore it to normal or at least recover the data

Solution
It certainly sounds like a defective drive on the face of it. Is there any chance you can install the drive INTERNALLY in a working PC and test it with a HDD diagnostic tool, e.g., Seagate's SeaTools?
