Im needing some help with some cctv and first thought was linustechtips forum, then i though no no no. but linus has done security tech videos

Im looking to buy the cheapest single unit cctv sd card wifi camera thing. Im broke af and i dont want to be even more broke when these 15 year old kids break into my garage and steal my scooter and family motorbikes.

im in the uk by the way, heres one ive seen. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vstarcam-Surveillance-Microphone-Configuration-Detection-Black/dp/B01DU59PJ8/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1504385563&sr=1-3&keywords=cctv

I just dont understand how they work. im not planning to have to use it you know. just incase something did happen id want the cctv to have a recording of what happened and also i want a beefy one smacked right on the front of my garage to scare them off in the first place!

these things run on sd cards so what happens when the are full. is it like it deletes the footage a week later unless you take the sd card out and save or something, because an sd card isnt gonna hold alot. im just confused. wanted a quick explanation of how they work. thanks!

to be fair to them every time--at my previous address-- i gave the police footage they acted on it as the peoples faces were perfectly clear

the sony camera i got quality is way above evidence quality

some of the videos i see on crimewatch etc make me think why the...
i would imagine its like a dash cam

when the sd card is full they start from the beginning--ie it records in a loop

and can tell you from personal experience

cheap cctv cameras totally suck outdoors at night unless the persons face is only a couple of feet from the camera

that might help--though assuming your camera is mounted high enough that some one cant just rip it off it might not

like i said i bought various cheap cctv cameras

some even in daytime if the person wasnt very close you wouldnt be able to tell who it was

in the end i bit the bullet and paid out 150 quid for a high quality sony camera

actually 2 cameras in one--colour for day and black and white for night

still got it sitting here lol as dont need it where i live now

but the 2 cameras in one is where the night time quality comes from

cheap cameras what they do is use colour during the day

and just use an infra red filter at night

if you have a webcam you will see what i mean try it in dark conditions

the image quality will be awful

well my idea is its more of a scare away thing and also to see what they are trying and how i can stop them! i dont need to be able to see their faces, it doesnt help anything anyway. you show the police and they just tell us its not enough evidence and they dont know who they are. thats what happened when we used our neighbours cctv when a motorbike was stolen. not enough evidence, what more do you want. you can see him walk up to the bike, and take it away! hahaha

some of the videos i see on crimewatch etc make me think why the hell do companies who can afford good cameras have such useless ones

you would be as well saving your money and putting up a dummy camera and good quality security light if all you want is to try to deter them or see them doing any thing

but a good light not one of those little solar powered led things
