You can't really tell from those pics. The GPU seems to be a 980ti reference card.
You need to have him show you proof of it working. Maybe go to his place and check it. Or have him film the card working and then continue filming to his monitor where you see no artifacts on the screen and he has something like MSI Afterburner opened and it shows the card name as 980ti.
