I have tried numerous things to get the BIOS reset, but so far I have had no luck.
I had replaced the battery prior to this rebuild, but I just took it out again to try to get the BIOS to reset.
Here is the whole story:
Started having blackouts Friday night. I'd be surfing and then everything would just go black. The computer was running, but I had to just hit the reset button to get it back. I did a system restore to an earlier day when things were running fine. That seemed to do the trick. I had installed a new mouse driver, so I thought maybe there was some conflict. The same problem happened again.
So my employer has a stockpile of old parts, and I go get a new video card. I actually got 4 of them. Not brand new, but new to me. My personal computer at home is the previous computer I had at work. So, I get home and replace the video card, and after an hour or so, the black screen reappears. Surely it won't happen with a third video card, but indeed it did.
So I went back to work to get a new motherboard. Not brand new, but new to me. Interestingly, we have several motherboards that are all the same - Intel DP35DP. And yes that is also the same motherboard we are replacing. The catch is that all of the motherboards had various RAMM amounts, so I picked up two motherboards that had the max this MB can handle. One particular MB looked brand new, and the other had Crucial Ballistix (DDR2, 800mhz, 4-4-4-12). Anyway, I got it all replaced, plug it in, and it runs for a second and then stops. I am reminded that the BIOS may think some other RAMM is present, so I tried several things to reset it, but so far nothing has worked. I did take all the RAMM out, and the computer does run, beeps incessantly. I did try to use a different set of RAMM - nothing. One stick of RAMM - nada. One stick of RAMM in other slots - by itself. Nothing. So I just took the button battery out with the power unplugged. It has been close to an hour.
If this doesn't work, what else can I do? Isn't the fact that the computer runs without the RAMM indicate that the hardware configuration is ok?
Thanks for the help. Always appreciated.
