I want to buy an old HP ProLiant DL380 G6 Server(16 hdd slots) and have the option between 3 CPUs(everyone of them apparently has two cpus each):
1. 2x Xeon L5630 Quad Core 2.13 GHz - 249,99 EUR(the website is in German)
2. 2x Xeon L5640 Six Core 2.26 GHz - 299,99 EUR
3. 2x Xeon X5670 Six Core 2.93 GHz - 419,99 EUR

Is it worth to go with the X5670 even thought its 120 EUR more than the L5640 (comparison)?

Would it make sense to buy two L5630 so I would have 32x 2.5 inch HDD slots total?

Also: What hdd should I choose. I know that WD makes good Desktop HDD but Seagate not so much. When I look for HDDs I find a lot of Seagate Enterprise 1TB HDD(so I assume that Seagate makes good Server HDDs?) for 180 EUR are they worth it for a home NAS?

The Seagate BarraCuda 2TB for 80 EUR (Desktop HDD) seems cheap but with RAID 6 the data is protected and the cost to replace one HDD isn't that high. But is it worth it for the long run.

A 16 drive DL380G6 chassis is only going to use 2.5 inch drives. They may have to be SAS, I am not sure if the 2.5 inch chassis supports SATA or not.

Have you ever heard the noise made by a 2U server chassis? You will want to put any server in the basement or other remote area. They are very LOUD.

Yes SATA 3 G/s is supported. I am aware of the noise issue, I am planning to set up a small server room in my basement

Sorry I should have clarified this a bit more... At first I just want to try a bunch of stuff like setting up a "real" server, configuring RAID, trying out different OS'. And later I want to run a NAS Server with media streaming and maybe also a game server.
