Very Low FPS for a GTX 1080

Just got finished building my new computer which is considerably better than my last, so I am very excited about that. I'm stuck with one huge problem, however.

Upon launching my first game from Steam (Counter Strike: GO), I hopped in a match and was shocked to see that I was only averaging 100-200 FPS.

This is puzzling because my last computer had a GTX 1060 3GB and I would average 200-400 FPS, my new graphics card (GTX 1080) and overall build in general is far superior to my last.

Specs:

OS: Windows 10 64-bit
MB: ASRock AB350M Pro4
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080
RAM: 32 GB (2x16) DDR4 3000
750w PSU
1TB SSD
4TB HDD

I've checked my GPU in the device manager and it says that it is working properly. However, I have a hard time believing this if it my apparent beast of a GPU is having a hard time getting over 200 FPS on Counter Strike: GO, which is NOT a demanding game at all. From what I see in videos online, a GTX 1080 should be pushing CS: GO to at least 500 FPS.

What kind of troubleshooting can I perform? Should I uninstall & reinstall the drivers? How would I go about uninstalling them?

All help is much appreciated & thanks in advance!

Sorry, forgot about that. RAM is 32gb (2x16) and it is DDR4 3000. I have not checked other games yet, but am about to download another one to check it out.

I've set it to high performance under "Power Options" in the control panel as I've heard this takes your cores out of the "Parked" state which can help. I've done it in the Nvidia control panel as well. Still sitting at the same FPS :(

I'm not sure how to check GPU usage in-game, what would be the easiest way to go about that? I'm downloading the benchmark program now to see what score I get.

You can monitor it by downloading and installing MSI afterburner which comes with Rivatuner. Msi afterburner is an overclocking utility but you don't have to mess with that if you don't want to. Open it up and click on settings > monitoring (I think) and then tick gpu usage in the list, and then press something like "Display on OSD". Then you just gotta go in-game and it should display it in the corner.

This definitely bumped the FPS up some, but still didn't get me where I think I should be. I switched it back to application controlled. Something worth mentioning, when I was doing the installation from the Gigabyte disk, it said that the installation failed. However, the only two parts that failed where the "Physks" or "PhysX" (not sure if it's spelled right) download, as well as the GeForce experience download. I then downloaded GeForce experience afterwards, and I won't lie it was giving me issues in the beginning. It kept telling me to restart the program. After I was able to get it working though, I downloaded the most recent drivers and it says I am up to date with the 1080 being recognized as my GPU. Not sure if that would matter, but figured I would include that info.

I am going to run a check on this now and let you know what I get. Something worth mentioning, when I was doing the installation from the Gigabyte disk, it said that the installation failed. My score for Firestrike was 14,426.

Graphics score: 20,566
Test 1: 98.40 FPS
Test 2: 81.94 FPS

Physics score: 16,542
Physics test: 52.51 FPS

Combined score: 4,205
Combined test: 19.56 FPS

Going to run afterburner now.

Even for a 1080? This is an article showing what score this guy got with his 1080, and I definitely am not up to par with him.

I'm not saying that the card isn't performing good, but I definitely expected more. And as previously stated, I average more FPS on my last build when playing Counter Strike: GO. There is just something that is not right.

Oh, and for whatever reason, I do not have that "Show in On-Screen Display" box in my afterburner program. The two options are "Show in Logitech keyboard LCD Display" + "Show in tray icon". So I'm not sure how I can check it from the afterburner program. I can tell you my GPU is clocked @ 1151 MHz + 5005 Mhz. I'm not too great with this kind of stuff so I don't know if those numbers are what they should be.

Also I am not sure why that box isn't showing up for you. That is strange. It might be useful to know your gpu usage in demanding games just to see if your gpu is actually being utilized to its fullest potential or so.

Hm, that is just slightly above mine, very strange. All of the tests I've seen though are higher which leads me to believe something is just not performing correctly. Would you recommend reinstalling the drivers?

I will uninstall afterburner and download it back.

So uninstall anything from Gigabyte as well? And then download the drivers from GeForce experience application or from their actual website?
