I have an Asrock 970m Pro 3 motherboard and an AMD-FX 8320 cpu that I got from a friend for free. They work just fine when I run them on my Ubuntu hard drive, but when I install windows 10, It freezes and blue screens after a few minutes each time. I've noticed that in pc part picker, they say that they have compatibility issues that can be resolved through some sort of motherboard updating process, but I have not been able to find any info on how to fix this problem. Help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Update: I was going through the bios, and as it turns out, the guy my friend bought it from messed up a ton of setting in the OC menu. I have since fixed the problem and it works fine now.

There should be no CPU/Motherboard compatibility issues with that combination. The baord has supported that CPU from cay one. Don't even need a BIOS update.

Are you using the Ubuntu machine in dual boot or something? Please list the rest of your system specs.

I don't think I am, also, my bad, it's an AMD FX-8320E Eight-Core Processor × 8. Also, I'm not currently with the machine, and I can't remember my specs entirely, but here is the Devices overview from the System Options menu I had my dad send me.

Memory: 7.8 Usable
Processor:AMD FX-8320E Eight-Core Processor × 8
Graphics: Gallium 0.4 on AMD POLARIS11 (DRM 3.9.0 / 4.10.0-33-generic, LLVM 4.0.0)
OS-Type: 64-Bit
-Sorry if that doesn't quite help, but it's all I can acquire at the current time.

Ahh! Makes a huge difference if the BIOS settings are correct, huh? Good job.
