Hey guys n gals,

I just got a comp from a buddy with a evga x79 sli mobo. I just put a brand new samsung 850 500gb ssd in it. I purchased windows 10 on my laptop and downloaded it to my thumb drive. Plugged it into my desktop and was able to install it to my ssd. But now the desktop is not able to detect my ssd. It gives me the "Adapter 1 : disk information, No drive detected", then takes me to a black screen with "reboot and select proper Boot device or insert boot media in the selected boot device and press a key". I have no idea what I am doing. I have taken out my cmos battery to reset my mobo and nothing. tried different sata ports and no dice :/

Solution
You will not need to re-install Windows every time to start the computer - Windows needs to be installed and activated using the authorization code only one time.

Set the SSD (which has the OS) as the first boot device in the BIOS - Restart.

That is what I have set as first boot device and it does the same thing

Did the OS install correctly on the SSD after you formatted the SSD> Usually, during the install of the OS Windows will automatically format in case the SSD is not formatted prior to install.

I installed before formatting, but when I go back to the point of windows installation where is shows the hard drives, it shows it all correctly formatted

The OS may not have been correctly installed - re-install, and select it as the first boot device. It helps if the OS SSD is connected to SATA 0 - SATA 0 has the highest priority and set this as the first boot device.

that is the only thing on the drive. reinstalling now

Make sure that the SSD is the only drive on the computer. After you get everything running, you may add drives as necessary.
