hey guys i need a new cpu. my current cpu is a amd fx 6100. i want to spend as little as possible for the most amount of improvement. budget £100 to £150. i would prefer to stick to the lower end

to add to this, i need help because cpu's seem weird because they might have a speed that is similar to mine but they are supposed to be better and they cost more. so how can i tell if it in fact would be an upgrade?

I can't tell what GPU you are using, but an FX6350 or further up an FX 8320 would still give you a performance increase on a CPU level, without needing a MB change. But it is still an outdated line of CPUs.

But as I said earlier, if you're looking to get into newer chipsets I.e. Newer Athlon or the Skylake/Kabylake Intel, you require a Motherboard and RAM change.

Your main problem is that you're on an FX CPU series. Which is outdated. That and to spend money to upgrade to the same FX chipset would be pretty redundant. To get newer budget CPUs, you will require a motherboard change (and in newest chipsets, a RAM upgrade).
