Hello all,

My system is currently setup as a 128GB SSD for my OS and a 1TB HDD for all my files, however I have recently been given a 480GB SSD.

I am wondering if I should switch over to having both my OS and Program Files on the larger SSD, I am only using around 200GB of my HDD so would have over 100GB spare if I were to upgrade.

I also have a separate HDDs for my Gaming and Scratch Drives so these wouldn't be moving over.

Am just wondering if this would be a more effective move as obviously the SSD would be faster, but would then be written to more. If it makes any difference it would be in a SATA 6GB/s.

Thanks in advance guys,
Sam

A fresh install would cure that issue. No partitioning required. That is definitely the best answer. Since you have a "new" disk, you can keep the other two around untouched for a few...

Your program files, may be difficult to move. You might still have to partition your 480GB SSD to maintain the volume label (C:, D:).

If you are up to the challenge, then I say go for it. Having 100s of GB of unused SSD is just wasting resources.

Moving over the Program Files wouldn't be a problem at all, I like to reinstall everything once in a while and it's coming round to that time again. Am guessing that if I did this from a Fresh OS, I wouldn't have to partition for Volume Labels as would be happy for it all to just be C:.

Since you have a "new" disk, you can keep the other two around untouched for a few months in case you need to retrieve anything from them. Maybe get a USB case for the 1TB disk and use it as backups.
