My first build died today after 5 years of running great (she will be missed) so I'm ordering a Ryzen 5 1600, Gigabyte GA-AB350 Mobo and 16gb 3000Mhz RAM. I read something about people having issues with RAM over 2600mhz on Ryzen 5 CPUs and was wondering if that is true. I also wondered if my copy of Win 10 would still work with basically a new PC?

Solution
Your copy of Windows 10 will be fine, no worries there.

Seems that some motherboards are more picky than others and I have read some articles claiming that the improvements in inter-core communication offered by higher memory speeds tail off after 2600MHz.

Best thing you can do is try it out, most people have been able to tweak and troubleshoot whatever issues they are having that I have seen.

EDIT: I think BIOS updates have made a big difference and certain types of RAM may be better than others

1) I disagree that W10 license will transfer.
According to Microsoft it won't. Perhaps they are being lenient. Do you have PROOF HamBown81 that this is true?

Alternatively KINGUIN (dot net) has licenses for about $30USD that seem to work fine. You download the Microsoft Media Creation tool and run it to then download and create a USB (or DVD-DL) install media. (have USB stick installed before running the tool).

2) Yes, Memory is more compatible though you should attempt to Google for the EXACT memory sticks that work properly for the EXACT same motherboard.

Apparently THIS stick works just fine:
CMU16GX4M2C3000C15R

("R" is just for the color so same as "B" for black or whatever, and I'm sure there are PLENTY of other kits that work though I'd focus on G.Skill and Corsair)

Not sure how this is different than a clean install. You can't have it on two machines at once but should be able to put on a new machine without issues.

I am stuck with only a outdated phone so trying to find stuff on Google is a pain. I'll try to find if the ram is supported. I'm not concerned with it running at max speed right away but i don't want to order it and have the system not boot at all

This is the list of "officially compatible" DIMMs, should simplify things a bit.

Quite simply you are required to buy a FULL LICENSE to have transfer capability to a different machine. You then would have to DE-ACTIVATE the license on the existing machine to allow it to activate on a new machine.

Most licenses are OEM, whether you bought a key, a disc, or a pre-built machine and are NON-TRANSFERABLE.

Microsoft has looked the other way occasionally, so you may get lucky, but the above are the facts as per Microsoft's own site.

I have successfully clean-installed the "upgrade" version of Windows 7 Ultimate on several machines and had no issues with activation.

Even Microsoft officially supports the method of double installing the upgrade version on a fresh HDD.

Obviously only one can be activated at a time, but it will still work. May be different in this situation I guess.
