Questions regarding air flow -

Case: Fractal Design R5 White

Cooling: Arctic Liquid Freezer 240 (Front mounted - top 2/3) - Intake
Cooling: A Good 120mm fan (Front Mounted - Bottom 1/3) - Intake
Cooling - EVGA GTX 1080 FTW Hybrid (Bottom mount next to PSU) - Intake

Exhaust fan at the back, stock case fan.

Due to the design of the R5 - would this airflow work at keeping everything cool?
(All HD bays would be removed including top bays for drives. Only using back SSD slots)

Intake temps over the radiators would be good - the extra fan will pull more cool air.

Do I need to add a top fan for exhaust - I'd prefer to keep the top half shut to keep noise down / look cleaner.

Solution

every case is different

and the hardware used also has an effect

most times its a case of trying different configs/places for the fans yourself to see which works best for your particular case and hardware

so no way i...

Three spots for exhaust at top - Better airflow would be top left as the heat all ends up in that corner?

OR mid - Far right?

That one top rear case fan won't do the job ?

you may not need a top fan

1 exhaust fan a lot of the time is enough

i have 2 radiators with 2 fans on each as intake--so 4 intake fans

but only 1 rear exhaust

my temps are fine

not saying that will work for every single pc case

but theres a fair chance it may on that one--if you would prefer the top covers left on

i would try it first with out a top fan

Yes - The idea is -

Use the CPU's 4 fan Radiator as intake (front) - bringing 27 C temps into the case.
Use the GPU's 1 fan radiator as intake (bottom) - Bringing 27 C temps into the case.
Use 1 Rear exhaust fan to handle the hot air.

Seperate idea - Put all 3 fans at the front - 2 from CPU / 1 GPU as intake. Again 27 C into radiator - jump a few degrees - case gets 30 C at most as intake. Rear fan takes care of rest.

I'd like to keep the clean design at the top and limit noise in this particular set-up.

so no way i can tell you yes 100% you wont need the top fan

but theres a pretty good chance you would be able to not need it

i can see why you want to keep the covers on the top of the case keeping the clean lines

my advice get the extra fan if it turns out you dont need a top one then just means you have a spare if its ever needed

Solution

yes in theory you would think so

but theres other factors

for example your radiator fans/intakes may be spinning slower than your exhaust

and it takes more effort/rpms to move the air through the radiators than a fan with no obstructions--ie the exhaust

so the exhaust fan has an easier job so to speak
