My Asus X99 Pro USB 3.1 motherboard has a defective memory slot D1. I want to upgrade the memory to 32GBs and found several single sticks but they require the D1 slot; can I use another slot instead? The same if I buy 2x16 sticks..still one has to be in the D1. the same question applies. Other wise I am forced to buy 4x8 and then only use 3 sticks, ending up with a degraded 24GBs and one useless stick.

Thanks for the advice, but I am totally aware of compatibility issues...that wasn't my question..I just solved my problem by buying 3 8GBs sticks that I can use in the good slots. So thanks again....FYI I got a great deal on them...

Thanks again....that's what I thought as well, just don't understand why Asus would recommend the D1 slot for use of a single or double module...anway, I've got 3 8Gbs on the way to complete this build finally... Thanks
