My laptop specs:
CPU: Intel Core i3-3110M Dual-Core 2.4 GHz
GPU: NVidia GeForce 820M and Intel HD Graphics 4000
RAM: 4GB DDR3 single channel 800 MHz
OS: Windows 7 64 bit

I would like to upgrade my laptop CPU from i3 to i5 or i7 and also add a second 4GB RAM. Will that make my gaming less laggy? Also i don't know which i5 or i7 i should buy.

Solution
a lot of laptops the cpus arent removeable any way

and as said theres the cost even if it is

and whether the bios allows it

and the extra heat generated by faster cpu

but the extra ram will help 4gb is just too low really

i dont believe its possible or worth while from a cost stand point. Upgrade a laptop you need to buy a new lap top . The cost of just the parts are more than the unit cost

Should i only add 4 gb ram or go for 8? And can i also change the primary 4gb ram with a 8 one?

In the majority of laptops their CPU's have been soldered to the motherboard, making it really difficult (near impossible without the proper tools) to replace or upgrade, they are BGA socket which means the cpu is soldered to the motherboard, thus it is not removable. You haven't provided the make and model of your laptop, making it difficult for us to know if your laptop supports up to 16gb of RAM in dual channel.

Your laptop has dual channel and according to HP you can use 2,4 and 8GB DDR3L SDRAM (2 DIMM), so yes you should be able to add another 4GB
