I've been having a really strange problem, and I don't know where else to go. For a few months now I've been having problems setting my display port output to my desired setting. I've got a 1080p 120hz monitor, so that's the goal. Sometimes I used to set 1920x1080, and it would come out with a weird 21:9 aspect ratio on my monitor, distorted. Sometimes 1080 is unavailable, most of the time 1280x720 is the max res. Not wanting to get into too much detail, the results are dodgy. It's weird.

By clean-reinstalling Windows 10 I temporarily fixed the problem, leading me to think it's a driver problem. And I was somewhat correct - whenever I have the latest drivers installed, I can only get 720p. With legacy drivers from 2016, I can get 1080p, sometimes even 120hz. But after a computer restart, back to 60hz most of the time, other times back to 720p.

By using the HDMI port I can get a stable 1080@60, but this is not ideal for gaming, and I'd really like a stable 120hz setup. Changing ports on the GPU won't make a difference. I've also bought another cable, that's not the issue, and tried using a different monitor, that's not the issue.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, as I don't have much hair left to pull out over this issue.
I'm happy to attach screenshots or any information you guys/girls may need from me.
Thank you in advance! Have a great day :) - Juan

I think I have about 2 months left on the RMA - kind of don't want to go this route, but will do if I can't find a solution. Thanks :)

I was talking about their tech. support dept.. Average wait time is a minute or less. Still, even if they do suggest an RMA that sounds even better. Get a brand new 970? Seems advantageous considering the shrinking window.

When I had to RMA mine it took about 6 days. A few to get their and a few to get back. My 4690K stood in while it was in the hospital.
