right now, i have been converting MP4 video files and saving them to my desktop for right now.
I went back to check on the videos and it was like if they were erase https://imgsafe.org/image/e447edbf9a
.So, when moving the backup video files to my desktop external hard drive that has ac power supported, will the files be more safer on a external hard drive, just like having your own video store handy. I was buying the dvds but i got wise by either finding the movie on the tv or getting it from iTunes, to save on the hard drive for anytime

what hang-th-9 said - suspect something went wrong with your copying or rendering program

i do a lot of video rendering, and after rendering i open each copy (main drive and backup drive) and clik on the middle and end of the movie just to make sure they copied fine. And i do copy them from a "worktable" drive to both a main drive and a backup drive - main drives are 4 TB 3.5" HDDs (X7) and 2 TB 2.5" seagate backup slims (X14). The seagate backups are also used for when we're on the road in the RV, for viewing

Those 0 size files may be due to a failure in converting them, or some other issue, maybe a corrupt drive.

The files will not be any safer on an external drive than an internal one, if it's for backups you need to have them in both places. If the file is in only one location it is not a backup, it's a move.
