Hello,

I wanted to reset my computer because it was running slow and i had a lot of stuff i didnt need anymore. When i began to reset my computer back to windows 8.1 the whole thing froze and wouldnt move so i had to do a force shutdown. Then when i turned the pc back on it was stuck in the "preparing automatic repair'Diagnosing your pc" loop. Ive tried going to the boot menu and launching from there but it seems windows isnt installed on my computer anymore or its just corrupted. Ive tried opening in boot menu and refreshing and reseting but it says windows is locked when i refresh and a partition is missing when i try to reset. I went into command prompt and tried rebuilding the BCD file but that didnt work. All the other solutions i see require me to go online and download a program which i cant do since i cant get past the repairing screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you.

I'm sorry but from what you're saying, it sounds like you're going to have to reinstall Windows 8.1. If you don't have a backup cope of your Operating System you'll have to download Windows Media Creation tool on another computer and then select Windows 8.1 as your Operating System and then select the download type you will want whether it is a DVD or USB boot device.

Here is the download you'll need for your version of Windows, Windows 8.1:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8

Download that and then install ontop a DVD or USB or download the .ISO and burn it manually to a DVD or use Rufus to make a UEFI bootable USB drive if needed. Rufus can be downloaded here and you can download the portable 2.16 version...

Once you have your Operating System burned to either the DVD or USB, boot to the DVD or the USB and reinstall Windows.

Of course, if you had files on the Hard Drive that you wanted to backup but you can't get into your computer obviously, you'll need to get an external Hard Drive bay and attach the Hard Drive to the bay and the bay to another computer via a USB connection. This will also help you understand if it is even worth reinstalling Windows on that Hard Drive again. You'll know if when you connect your Hard Drive to the bay and the bay to the computer and trying to open a folder or even just the Hard Drive; it'll load for ever! In that case, you'll need a new Hard Drive for which I recommend a Samsung SSD or Western Digital Blue Hard Disk Drive if you want to keep the price down and have what you probably had before.

Here is the external Hard Drive bay:

Here is the recommended Samsung SSD:

Here is your traditional Hard Disk Drive:

Hope that helps!
