gtx 970 vs gtx 1060

Solution
As others have said, the 1060 is faster than a 970 and it has more VRAM. Whether you can get one at a reasonable price is another question. I would personally avoid the 3GB model 1060 since some games like Rise of the Tomb Raider have a pretty massive drop in performance due to lack of VRAM. The 6GB models that are available on Amazon right now are going for about $300. Depending on how much you can find a 970 for it might be the better buy.

Hello,
I recently bought a GTX1060. From overall gaming point of view when compared GTX 1060 vs. GTX 970, GTX 1060 is much better than GTX 970. The reason is, it performs much faster and is available in newer models.

For availability, the 970 comes out on top. Cryptocurrency miners are gobbling up 1060s (the 6GB models, not the crippled in comparison 3GB models) almost as fast as they are comparable AMD offerings. If you can find a 1060 6GB at a reasonable price AND in stock, grab it over the 970. It doesn't have the RAM limitation issues of the 970 and is better overall.

EDIT: I should clarify. the 1060 isn't significantly better than a 970, and the difference wouldn't be worth an upgrade to a 1060 from a 970 for performance alone. It is still, an improvement though.

GTX 1060 6GB is slightly faster than the GTX 970, but do not buy the GTX 1060 6GB if it is double the cost of the GTX 970. I would rather get a GTX 970 at $150 or a GTX 1070 at $400 than a GTX 1060 6GB at $300+.

The GTX 1060 6GB isn't a whole level above the GTX 970; that would be the GTX 1070. You will barely see any performance difference between the 6GB and 3GB version of the GTX 1060 if a game doesn't use above 3GB; however, 6GB is recommended for newer, graphic demanding games.
