I7 7700K + AIO WATER 3.0 temps

Hi there,
I wanted to ask whether a OC I7 7700k at 4.8Ghz (1.3 voltage) that operates at 45-50 degrees IDLE and 80 MAX-LOAD is within a regular range of temperature considered that I mounted an AIO Thermaltake water riing 3.0 and I made the pump run at 100%. The case is a Thermaltake core p3.
Thanks in advance,
Salvatore.

Thanks for answering first of all, lowering down the voltage would result in great temperature decreases or would it be better to push it to 5.00 ghz with the same voltage?
I would also mine with this desktop and I wanted to know whether it's better for me not to overclock the cpu for a 24/7 usage or not to worry about these temps and push the cpu to 5.0ghz.
Thanks

Depends on your definition of MAX load. Is that a Prime95 torture/max load? or a medium gaming load? (Gaming max load will easily be 10c cooler than that of a Prime95/small FFT load, so an actual 70C gaming would be 'warm', but, not 'bad', given typical 7700K behavior.

Hi, so you are right, the full prime95 torture test is pushing the cpu to 90 degrees and over, though I knew that prime95 best torture test is stimulating a workload which cannot be easily reached by daily tasks, when gaming 4k the cpu never goes past 80 degrees. Should I lower the voltage, are these temps dangerous?

80C is warmer than I would like to see for sustained use, but certainly safe. Smaller AIO coolers are not as effective as the best conventional heat sink/fan combos.....

Unless you are playing on a 144 Hz monitor at 1080P, the 7700K is certainly plenty fast at normal clock speeds/core voltages. You can decide on a better cooler and/or delidding later if you think it is necessary...

Yes, so what I did instead I downclocked the voltage at 1.28 and now it looks like duruing gaming in 4k I have 60 degrees and ran aida64 test for 6 hours with the maximum temperature registered at 84.
Unfortunately the water ring aio 3.0 is a 360mm radiator so I don't think I could find a much better solution. Do you guys think these temps are normal with such an expensive case/aio cooler?

45-50 degrees idle is too much, unless your room temperature is uhm 40degrees :)

My 7700k sits idle at 29-31degrees and it's summer here so room temps are about 25 degrees.... (running a corsair H105 AIO)

The 7700k TIM is bad but not that bad...

So no, these temps are certainly not normal with such a case/cooler combo and you should look into it further.

So things to check in order:
-did the cpu had a plastic protecing cap on it? (yes, kinda silly but ppl forget to remove it, no offense!)
-If the cooler is seated properly
-Thermal paste ammount (did you apply it yourself? did you remove any previous paste before putting that cooler on -if you replaced a previous one that is)
-AIO pump speed (should always be at 100% as you say you've set)...not familiar with that cooler's connectivity to help you there, sorry
-Case airflow (radiator/fan orientation), are the exhaust fans working properly?

Best of luck o/

Sounds fine for gaming temps, IMO.... (At 4k, usually one is GPU-bound anyway, so the extra 300-400 MHz on the CPU won't mater much...)

Radiator sounds large, but, 84C is sill very warm for Aida64 load, still 20C above what I see with conventional Noctua D15.

Are we sure the water block is firmly mounted/locked down to heat shield? Thin layer of paste?

You might have everything right, but a proverbial CPU-'dud' for effective thermal transfer at higher clock speeds/loads...
Many have resorted to delidding and gotten 20c lower temps, but, that's a big decision, and one not without risk given current 7700K prices...)

Good luck!

Thanks so much for answering,
So I managed to get the temps down to 35-45 but they present spikes as we all know i7 7700k is known for jumping to certain temperatures for no reason. The only thing I can say I probably did wrong during the installation is that I lightly touched the thermal paste by accident but really it was a super light contact that didn't take off any thermal paste. Could it be that I need to reapply it because of this?

Nah, if it was a very small touch it shouldn't matter.

Did the CPU have paste on it from a previous cooler or was this a brand new installation?

Did you use the preapplied paste that came with the cooler or did you apply it yourself, if so, how much did you apply?

Hi there,
There was no thermal paste on the CPU and I used the preapplied one from thermaltake... but I guess that temperatures now are fine for a i7 7700k... it is just incredible how bad that cpu is even with a 250 dollars water cooler... at least temperatures while gaming are 50-60.
