I've been tasked with putting together two budget builds for two friends, one games at 720p the other at 900p. Games would include skyrim, civ 6 and low demanding shooters.

At $375 I was able to manage the following with both used and new parts

i7 3770
8GB DDR3
GTX 590
CX750 (2017) psu
256GB SSD

How do you feel this would game at 900p today? Or would this be better suited to my 720p friend? And I hit the drawing boards again for 900p. I had a chance at a GTX 690 at $85 but didn't pull the trigger quick enough and lost out to another bidder. I know all the disadvantages of the 590 but I'm getting it for a scant $58

Solution
A nice challenge.
If that 8gb ram is a dual channel kit, I would be inclined to see how it does with each friend using integrated graphics only.
Add the GTX590 to the rig with the most need.

great find! good solid cheap combo! il add a second ssd in the future but otherwise excellent deal, probably even game at 1080p on low for online multiplayer shooters , civ 6 is cpu intensive so 900p should be fine on this , skyrim not that demanding w/o texture mods installed. only issue is the upgrade path but this rig should give you a few years of pleasant gaming experience in the 720 to 900p gaming range.

A GT 1030 and a G4560 will do very well in both 720p and 900p. The G4560 is basically an i3. Dual Core with Hyperthreading, with decent performance and can be paired with an RX 470 or GTX 1050 Ti if looking to upgrade.

Instead of the GT1030 + G4560, wouldn't the G4600 with integrated graphics perform about the same? The G4600 has the Intel 630 graphics versus the G4560 having the Intel 610 graphics.
