Red Line Onscreen after Crash

I'd changed my PC's "Power Plan" from "Power Saving to High Performance because I'd noticed the framerate on my games had dropped a lot recently. I started up a game and everything was fine for a few minutes but then both my PC tower and monitor shut down. (They're both on a surge protector along with a printer) After I started my PC back up, I noticed my wallpaper from Wallpaper Engine had a single red line down the middle. I changed the wallpaper and noticed that the red line only affected "Video" wallpapers, not Scenes or Apps or any other. When I looked to YouTube for answers, every YT video had the same red line. I'd also noticed that my GFX card (AMD Dual-RX 480) was unusually hot on startup (~70 C instead of 40-50 C). I searched for some kind of crash report for a long time but I couldn't find one.

I regularly (About monthly) clean my PC. Fans and all. I've been building off of a Dell Inspiron that I got new in 2015 so most of it is stock except for the power supply (Thermaltake TR2 600W) and the previously mentioned dedicated GFX card. My PC has 4 fans total, including the 2 built into the GFX card. I've only ever disconnected the CPU fan and the out-flowing fan once but I know I plugged them back in and had them facing the right way. When I removed the CPU fan and the heatsink, I noticed there was very little thermal paste on the CPU. I've never replaced the thermal paste. Should I do that? How often? :/

Thanks

You said the video card was too hot not the CPU, so looking at the CPU should not fix this. You don't need a lot of thermal paste on the CPU, just a thin even layer. Replacing it may be a good idea if you have not since you had the system. Also test the video card in another system if you can to see if the same issue follows the card.

Right. The GFX card was hot. Sorry about that confusion. Unfortunately, I don't have another system to test the gfx card but I can revert back to the integrated Intel HD graphics. Would that suffice? Also, I noticed when I was on YouTube yesterday that sometimes the red line didn't appear until after a few seconds into the video and sometimes it appeared immediately. Does this help at all?

I reverted back to the integrated gfx :)pouah:, by the way) and the red line's gone. Which means it was my gfx card... now the issue is whether or not it's covered by the limited warranty... Thanks. :wahoo:
