What equipment do you need to build a computer?

Since I've decided on trying to build a computer, hence I need the equipment to do so. I've never built a computer before so I have no idea what equipment I need apart from the general screwdriver.

Also, is there anything that I may not need but will just make the experience of building a computer much easier and faster?

All you'll really need is a good quality magnetic screwdriver with interchangeable bits, no need to go for Snap On quality, but something from a decent maker, and either a sharp craft knife or scissors to open the various bags and boxes. A pair of tweezers will help when connecting the tiny front panel cables to their motherboard headers as well.

Apart from looking at a few video tutorials you'll make life easier by:

#1: READ THE MANUALS! Motherboards are not exactly the same, their connectors can be in different locations and quantities. Not all cases are identical either so see what is what before you even start.

#2: Take it at your own pace and do only one task at a time, you're not in a race and it's easy to miss something if you...

1. Processor. Your central processing unit, or CPU, is often referred to as the computer's brain.
2. Motherboard. The motherboard houses the various components of your PC and connects different components.
3. Memory.
4. Graphics processing unit.
5. Storage.
6. Power supply
7. Case.

#2: Take it at your own pace and do only one task at a time, you're not in a race and it's easy to miss something if you rush.

#3: Don't be too scared of the static electricity issue, as long as you ground yourself occasionally during the build you ( and the hardware ) will be fine; A masonry wall, a water pipe, a AC/heating duct or a grounded and plugged in metal cased appliance will all do very nicely.

#4: Most will build up the motherboard then insert it into the case, it's just easier to handle it with the CPU cooler fully installed as it gives you something nice and chunky to hold.

#5: The only really risky part is actually inserting the motherboard, slide it in at an angle and push its rear connectors through the sprung steel EM shield before lowering the 'board fully onto its standoffs.
Speaking of standoffs, be sure to have the correct number in the correct places beforehand.
It's common to have to push the 'board towards the EM shield n order to align the mounting screws, insert and 'start' them all first, then, once they're all in tighten them to secure the 'board.
Be careful not to trap any cables, if they flop in the way, tie them aside or together to keep them out of the way.

#6: That big 24 pin motherboard cable is ALWAYS tight, you can ease it by using a little petroleum jelly to lubricate it-this is perfectly safe and won't harm either the connectors nor the socket plastic.
If it's still tight, slide a couple of fingers partly under the motherboard edge to support it.
ALL the power cables will only go in one way and have locking tabs on them.

#7: DON'T PANIC! If the system won't boot fist time it's almost certain you've simply misplaced a cable, it's the most common cause of non starting on a new build. Power the system down and check through the motherboard manual to ensure each cable is where it's supposed to be.
