Gaming CPU confirmation

Hey,

I've decided to build a better PC, mostly for gaming and some video editing etc.

I've been looking at recommended specs for some of the popular and demanding games:

Public unknown battlegrounds
ARK survival evolved
GTA V
Battlefield 1

I've come to the conclusion a i5-7600K would be very suitable for all of these, however these cost £214.

and for some reason the i7-4790 is around £183.

Looking at benchmarks etc, the i7 is slightly better, but a lot better priced.

Thoughts on these chips please and if I'm making good choices! :)

That's a fine board, other options are ASRock Pro4, Asus Prime B350-Plus and Gigabyte Gaming 3. A lot of people seem to recommend the Pro4, but honestly any of them would be fine - pick your favorite brand/look/price.

Would recommend a Ryzen 5 1600 instead, unless you have already bought a motherboard(which doesn't seem to be the case since you're considering a 7th gen as well as a 4th gen CPU for purchase). Ryzen 5 1600 is a 6-core processor, while i5 is a 4-core processor. The extra cores will allow Ryzen to last longer in games. However, the one downside to Ryzen is that your FPS will not hit as high as 144 - it'll only play in the 60-120 FPS range, above that the CPU load becomes too much for its lower clock speed and IPC.

If that was too hard to understand, just tell me what monitor you have(exact model), and I can help you make the better decision based off of that. Also tell me the GPU you are planning to use in the new system(or the options you have in mind).

I don't yet have the monitor or GPU in mind. Still gotta check out these.

Okay cool the Ryzen 5 looks pretty good, especially on price point and benchmarks!

Main reason I went with intel is just always had intel a part from a old old pc lol.

i5's were okay just until Ryzen came along, now Intel's next gen will most likely have increased core count as well, so 4 cores really isn't cutting it anymore. The next generation i7's will be 6-core 12-thread, while the i5's will be 6-core 6-threads. Once those drop, the switch to 6-cores for gaming would really accelerate, and then the current gen i5's would struggle.

Thanks, just watched a comparison video on youtube vs both gaming and the FPS/CPU usage etc Ryzen beat it big time so I'll go with that!

Not sure what motherboard to get, I'm looking at a MSI B350 GAMING PLUS - ATX Motherboard for AMD Socket AM4 CPUs for £90, cheaper would be better though lol.
