Hello all,

I have 8GB of memory (2x4GB HyperX 1866MHz DDR3) installed on my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5) but only half is usable. This has only recently changed and the full 8GB has previously worked

-I have checked that the max memory box is unchecked.
-Checked my BIOS and it shows the 8GB installed.
-I have also changed the DIM placement around several times and this makes no difference.

Any ideas?

Solution
Is your windows a 32bit?

Try these:

1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.
2. In the System Configuration window, click Advanced options on the Boot tab.
3. Click to clear the Maximum memory check box, and then click OK.
4. Restart the computer.

If it doesn't work then try enabling the memory remapping feature in Bios.

Peace.

Solution
8GB (2 x 4GB) kit

4GB single module

Memory manufacturers guarantee the rated speeds of any memory to be obtainable only in the kit it is sold in. If you are doubling up on modules sold as singles that may be your problem as there is no guarantee that the modules will be compatible together as they have never been tested together.

You may want to try listing a part number and using MemTest86 to test for defective memory.
