Hi guys
So I'm looking for a gpu upgrade
my current config :
i5 4440
gtx 750
8gb ddr3
corsair vs 450
1600*900 , 60hz screen

wanted to know what the best possible gpu upgrade , at this point of time , could be
also,
1. is it wise to invest now given the abnormally high prices of cards ? (should I wait a little ? will the prices drop ?)
2. is a new gpu on its way anytime soon ?

I don't have unrealistic needs, just need to be able to max out (atleast high - very high@60 fps)games at my resolution for 2-3 years till my next upgrade

Solution

I would not consider a 1070 at all - the person who suggested it must have failed to notice the resolution you play at.
1600x900 is less graphically intensive than 1920x1080. The 1070 would be overkill.
So no higher than a 1060 6GB on the Nvidia side, and a Vega 56 on AMD(but you would need a bigger PSU).
Okay, a few things here..

Don't expect prices to.drop anytime soon.

You will need a better quality PSU, it is a very low quality PSU you got. You will also.need a larger PSU if you go anything higher than GTX 1060. Look for a Corsair RM550x or similar quality.

A GPU to last the next 2-3 years with high settings would need to be at least a GTX 1070

I don't see the prices dropping in the next few(6 months or less) months. At your resolution(with a potential for an upgrade at a future date) would be a 1050(TI would work too). It will easily handle that resolution at max settings, with your cpu not being an issue whatsoever(it's still a very viable cpu). If you're after a Radeon option, a 570 would work, but their prices are a bit higher atm.

1) Yes. Vega 56 is probably your best option, IF you can get ahold of one... or 1060 6GB(price is still kinda high on some models, but not as bad as it used to be)

2) Pascal Refresh - not exactly new. Very much like kaby lake cpus are to sky lake ones.

No, prices are not likely to drop, at least not for several months, so all you can do is to hunt up the best deal currently available.

Yes, a GTX 1060 would be a nice overall upgrade, and at such a low resolution I'd go for the cheaper 3Gb version, although a 6Gb one would be nice it's not REALLY a must have at that resolution.
A GTX1070 at that resolution is royal overkill, and it'll definitely require a better power supply, only consider it if you intend to move up to a HD display.

Your system isn't a particularly demanding one but the 'Vs' series power supplies aren't particularly high quality either, but at least they offer your system decent protection if they do fail, so I'd suggest a better PSU is a 'nice to have but not essential' upgrade. I'll suggest you look for a replacement come sale time.

I agree with the folks regarding your PSU btw, partly why I suggested a 1050(or TI). If you can replace that PSU, then you can go a bit more aggressive, but unless you plan on a new monitor in the lifetime of the card you're planning on purchasing, anything above a 1050 series is overkill.

at your resolution, a 1060 6GB (Ideal for 1080P) would be more than you need for what you want to achieve
"I don't have unrealistic needs, just need to be able to max out (atleast high - very high@60 fps)games at my resolution for 2-3 years till my next upgrade"

I would suggest a gtx 1050ti or even a gtx1060 6GB if you may upgrade the monitor between now and the next upgrade 2-3yrs out.
a 1070 is totally overkill on the current system and monitor and is not a good choice, its a great card but wasted at that resolution

okay so I'm getting a 1060 6gb zotac mini for around 340$ (rough conversion from INR)
I'm guessing it'll play BF1,sniper gw3 and the lot at 900p 60fps max
So should I go for it ? Is this variant of the 1060 fine ?

and yeah I'm aware of the VS series
until I explicitly have problems with it I'm keeping it

Single fan cooler vers.

As others have said a new PSU should be on the radar soon.
