Got a new SSD and am running into some issues. Desperate for help, and completely lost.

Yesterday I finally got my Crucial MX300 275GB SSD in the mail and popped it in my laptop and got a software called Macrium to clone the OS and whatnot from my HDD to my SSD. Few notes are: I didn't format the SSD when I put it in, because it was already readable by the program and it was seen in File Explorer but said something about how it was corrupted and/or unreadable. I then attempted to clone my HDD to my SSD, only to get an error 15 minutes later about how I don't have insufficient permission or whatnot. My brother and I tampered a bit around CMD and the BIOS to see if we could find something but in the end just tried another time. Once again it gave the same error and then he suggested we force scan/repair the drive in CMD, as it might do something. Scan/Repair went on and I decided to go to sleep seeing that it went up by 1% every 4-5 minutes.
Woke up and found it at the login screen. I prompted up the Macrium software because it was the only software that could read it's contents other than disk management, and for some reason, it was cloned?? All the same things on the HDD like the (OS, WINRETOOLS, and NFTS Primary) blocks were copied on the SSD. I was confused but decided to with it and try and launch the laptop without the HDD to make sure everything was fine and set my SSD as the primary drive. I do exactly that and end up getting an error about repairing or whatnot, and I couldn't launch windows. So my brother and I went through the BIOS and tried multiple things, like changing some boot options to some of the files on the SSD that were called something like - boot.sfd, boot.exe, bootfix.exe, etc etc. - and nothing worked in the end, so I put my HDD in and just decided to wipe my SSD and try to start fresh. And for some reason I was able to "delete volume" for the :E (OS I think) off the SSD but couldn't do the other blocks like WINRETOOLS and NFTS PRIMARY. So I went to CMD and tried to clean the SSD and it said I don't have the permission to do that.
So I'm sort of at a dead end, anyone have ANY sort of suggestions? I would really appreciate it. I also have a few questions. Is there a way I can just wipe both drives and fresh install Windows 10 without losing my license? I do have an extra code for it but I don't want to use it as it's for emergencies only.
Sorry for the long post, but I'm really desperate for help and very lost. Thanks

OK...now for some investigation on your part.

The Crucial MX300 is a SATA drive, in either a SATA connector or an m.2 connector.
You've apparently gotten the m.2.

Is your laptop actually capable of using a m.2 SATA drive in that port? Not all are.

M.2 is merely the connector. They can be either a SATA drive, or an NVMe drive.
Some motherboard can only use a SATa drive, some only an NVMe drive.
Some motherboards can use either.

What can your system use?

Yes I did. I selected the disk and entered wipe but this was given to me --

DISKPART> clean

Virtual Disk Service error:
Clean is not allowed on the disk containing the current boot,
system, pagefile, crashdump or hibernation volume.

I can provide a screenshot of both HDD and SDD in disk management if that helps.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you have an Windows 7 install USB Drive?
If yes try this...

Boot from the USB into the Windows Installer.. Go to where you choose on which Drive you want to install Windows on..
There you Choose the Disk you want to wipe...
Then choose Format or Delete (to delete the whole Partition)
Now it should be empty!

But be shure to choose the right Disk!

1. We're assuming the Crucial SSD is non-defective and...

2. When you boot the system with ONLY the HDD connected, the system boots & functions without problems.

3. We'll assume 1. & 2. are met, OK?

4. Repeat the disk-cloning operation with the Macrium Reflect program. You DO NOT have to format or partition the SSD destination drive in any way, capiche?

5. We assume you know how to properly use the Macrium program to clone the source disk, i.e., your boot HDD to the destination drive, i.e., your Crucial SSD.

6. We'll assume the disk-cloning operation proceeds without problems - no error messages or untoward results, OK?

7. NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT. After the d-c operation completes and you SHUTDOWN the PC, disconnect the source drive - your boot HDD - from the system and boot to the SSD AS THE ONLY DRIVE CONNECTED IN THE SYSTEM. Capiche?

See how it goes.

ADDENDUM:
Possibly the PC is a laptop so the SSD was connected as a USB external drive. I'm not clear if the SSD was also connected internally.
If the Crucial was connected as a USB external device during the disk-cloning operation, you will have to install the drive internally. I guess you know that.
While it's possible the cloned USB drive can be bootable as a USB device, that is ordinarily not the case; it must be connected as an internal drive.

Thanks for the reply. Already did #7 step when I cloned it, and that's when I got the error and couldn't launch windows. Right now I'm extracting a windows setup to a stick and thinking of wiping both drives. Any suggestions or how to do it optimally?

Just to recap:
Original HDD
And then a new SSD?
How did you connect the SSD alongside the HDD?

It is a laptop indeed, but its not a USB port. It has a separate slot for an SSD.

Yeah, I thought that too... It's making me pretty salty..

Just to add, it's an inspirion 15 7559, and it has an extra slot for an SSD.

It's an m.2 connector
