Hey guys,

Hey all!

Looking to replace an old gaming machine that's finally died (May she rest in peace). Almost seven years with a single GPU upgrade. But now I'm looking for a new build to last me a while under the same scenario.

I've no set budget in mind - Only that I don't want or need the best. No VR, no Multi Monitor (exluding somtimes connecting another screen for the odd 'learning' habbit.

I've a list below of what I'm looking at so far, but It's far from complete. I'm wondeing if you lovely people can help me finish it! A soft guess of budget would be around £1000 in total. Starting it all from scratch! I can't rely on old pc case/psu etc.

CPU: Intel Core I5-7600K 3.8Ghz Quad Core Kabylake CPU Processor

RAM: 16Gb of ????? .. I beleive this needs to be chosen once you select a MB?

MB: I have no idea. I can't seem to find a reliable source of information due to the overclock on the processor. But I will only need one PCI slot/Graphics card.

GPU: Nvidia 1070.. Again, unsure of pitfalls of brands but I used to look at ASUS/Gigabyte.

Storage: Looking two TB drives. One for games, one for files. With a 500gb SSD.

PSU: A 650 Watt? Open to brands.

I am open to suggestions! The end result is gaming (dont need 4k!) and other random stuff. Skyrim, Civ, Stellaris.. Nothing spectacular.

Thanks alot!

EDIT: Probably worth mentioning I'm in the UK!

If you're going to be playing "nothing spectalular" for another seven years, then that's all that quad core is capable of delivering.
The MB needs to have the Z270 chipset to be able to overclock.
You're better off getting a single 2Tb drive, it's much better value. Samsung and Kingston SSDs are excellent.
650W will be enough, look into either the EVGA Supernova series or Corsair RMX.

It's over budget but cheaper than what you asked for. Should perform basically the same in most titles. A few newer ones it'll actually be better.

Thanks guys! The list by Supahos helps alot (stealing the link!) but I think I'll stick to the Intel chips (habit).

My reason for splitting storage is because I may be moving 'data' around as I make up a home lab for database things. Lost a full 2tb once and I almost cried I lost so much at once.

Top notch PSU suggestions too!

Thank you. Very much!

For the sake of completeness - Here's the chosen parts. I already have a case to reuse and will likely get the storage as suggested above. But for now will use a presently owned SanDisk SSD.

If anything in blatantly wrong let me know! But otherwise thanks alot :)
