I'm thinking of changing from a proprietary Acer motherboard to a Z97 motherboard. Both of them have the same LGA 1150 socket

What do i have to look out for such as compatibility between components?

Do i need to change my ram if i change my motherboard?

ram: Kingston ACR13D3LU1KFG 2x8GB DIMM DDR3

Solution
the new motherboard may not fit the proprietary Acer case, be on look out you may need to change the case too. a possibility to be aware of
a Z97 board will use DDR3 and if that is what you have you should not need to change RAM.
