Hello everyone i have been having trouble with my internet. About 2 months ago i bought a new motherboard for my pc the Gigabyte B250M-D3h and ever since ive noticed that my internet speeds seem slower but it seems like a a router/modem issue not my pc. When im watching a youtube livestream i get 5sec of video and 15sec of buffering no matter the quality, but when I turn my vpn on in my browser i can watch the livestream at max quality and no buffering at all which the vpn is much slower than my normal speeds.

When downloading files i also have slow download speed but i should be getting atleast 10MBp/s but instead i get between 0kbp/s-700kb/s which is really bad for my internet since i have ultra fast fibre. The only thing that downloads at normal speeds are steam games.

My Speedtest Results:

It could be that im not sending enough packets. But im not to sure to be honest.

Thanks!

Question: "two modems is [sic] my household". I would expect it to be one modem (or modem/router) and then a second router.

Generally home networks have the following connectivity:

ISP > modem (or modem/router0 > [WAN port] router [LAN ports] > computers. The ">'s" being Ethernet cables or wireless connections.

However; you can have a second router connected to the main router and then have additional computers connected to the second router.

Such a network does need to be correctly set up and configured.

Could be an IP conflict. Works okay for awhile but "stops working" when another device joins the network.

Make a list of your devices and check their IP addresses. DHCP devices can and will receive different IP addresses...

Please clarify: " i can watch the livestream at max quality and no buffering at all which the vpn is much slower than my normal speeds."

Seems contradictory both in itself and with respect to speed in general. I.e., "normal speeds".

Not sure at all why steam games would download at "normal speeds". Some preference via the router's QoS settings perhaps?

Do other devices have similar problems? Would expect so if the issue is truly with the router/modem.

Make & model modem, make & model router?

Wired network adapter?

Try downloading and reinstalling the applicable drivers via the manufacturer's website.

Reconfigure the network adapter to your network router.

When i use vpn in my browser i can watch youtube livestreams at max quality and no buffering. But on my normal internet it plays 5secs of it then buffers for 15sec.

When I mean "normal speeds" i mean normal for my internet according to speedtest.

I think steam games download speeds are very high because of how popular they are. And their servers are very good.

All other devices work fine. Sometimes it stops working but a simple reset fixes that.

I have two modems is my household one in the living room and one in my room. A Ethernet cable running from the living room modem to my modem in my room. Then my pc is plugged it to the modem in my room.

Have tried reinstalling drivers but no fix

I have reconfigured the network adapter to my router.

Make a list of your devices and check their IP addresses. DHCP devices can and will receive different IP addresses per the router's configuration.

Sketch out a diagram of your network and all devices. Verify what is connected to what and what type of connection is being used.

Check the modem and/or router User Manuals/Guides to confirm correct connections and configurations.

Only one router should be issuing DHCP IP addresses. Devices with Static IPs should be assigned IP addresses outside of the IP address range allocated to the one router issuing DHCP IP addresses. No two devices should have the same static IP or a static IP within the allocated DHCP IP address range.

Remember to include your VPN.
