The modem is at 192.168.0.1 , bridged mode.

I configured 2 routers, one with 192.168.1.1 (with VPN) and the other 192.168.2.1 (w/o VPN). It seems whichever boots first, "wins". I don't know why the modem would care, or even know, that have 2 LANS and 2 routers? But only one of the 2 gets a WAN connection.

I have some devices I want behind the VPN and others not. This seemed like a great solution.

I can connect to .1.1 fine and internet works. But when I connect to 2.1, it says NO INTERNET. But if I boot that router alone, then it does have internet.

I tried cycling the modem, routers, etc, same result. Advice welcome!

I realize that this config can cause issues like for PORT FORWARD- which of the 2 answers? But I figured I'd manage that later!

Solution
Unless you purchase two public IP addresses from your ISP, only one device will get an IP address when the modem is in bridge mode. Which ever device asks first will get the public IP address.
If you have the modem in bridge mode then you can only have a single device behind it. Almost all ISP only give you a single IP address so only the first device will get a IP. The ISP may offer to sell you another IP for a extra monthly fee.

It should work to run the modem in router mode it just depends why you feel you must have it in bridge mode.

I need to set up the VPN on the router that's on the WAN. The Surfboard offers no VPN configs.

I run my vpn router behind my main router with no issues but it does depends what kind of vpn you are running it is much harder if the device is the "server" function.

What should work if you have to run in bridge mode is to put the other router behind the vpn router. You should then be able to tell the vpn router to allow any traffic coming from that router to bypass the vpn and go to the internet. You will of course have a second layer of nat but that generally is only a issue for console gamers.

I like the 2 IP idea , but usually when I call spectrum the person is like "WHAT'S AN IP?"? I'll try after this storm. In the meantime maybe I can try to change back to MODEM ROUTER MODE.

I wil first try to put the 2nd router behind the VPN router, but I don't see any configs that allow me to bypass the VPN ? Maybe I can put the non-VPN router first, and put the VPN router behind it?
