So I went to the scrapyard the other day To look for some computers. I ended up finding a ton of systems that may have been water damaged due to rain or whatever. They haven't been powered for a long time and I was wondering if they would still be able to turn on and if they were still okay to use, especially the power supplies. With those being completely water damaged and maybe corroded what I be able to still use them? Is it possible that I could bring these home and still use them since they only cost about $3 a pound? Thanks in advance, I appreciate the help.

Unless you are an electrical engineer that can pick that PSU down to atoms and build it back up again, I would say NO.

If it has been out in the open with rain hitting it... You can be pretty sure it is damaged, or will be damaged down the line due to corrosion. So again, not worth the risk.

Picture this:

- Honey!!! I made one heck of a bargin!!! PSU for 3 buck!!

(one week later)

- Hey... honey... you know that PSU I saved 3 bucks on...? yea well... it caused an fire while I was at the toilet and.. yea the house burned down... But hey! it only cost 3 bucks!!

The End
