Hi, have just received my gtx 1050ti today assuming it would come with the required power cable only to find that it does not. On amazon they are all very short cables and as i only have one output left on my power supply i have to use the 6+2 pin instead of a 6pin to 6pin. Does anyone know where i can get a good, cheapish cable for this?

Thanks,
Nat Walton

I need a 8pin/6+2pin to connect to power supply and a 6 pin on the other end to connect to the gigabyte gtx 1050 ti

A 6+2 pin is exactly that. It's either used as a 6pin or 6+2pin(8pin). You neither need or have any use for a cable to change that connector to the exact same thing. The +2 part of that connector you can fold back and zip tie. That's it's intended purpose, which leaves you with a 6pin connection.

Gpus do not come with power cables. That's the job of the psu and it's wiring.

Ahh. Oh. That's entirely different beastie. Almost all modular/semi-modular psus use proprietary cables. As in the only cables that will actually connect to, and have the right pins match up, are the original cables. The only place you'll get replacements is from the psu vendor or possibly from a custom cable outlet. So if you have a modular corsair CX 500M, you'll need to order from Corsair a CX 500M pcie cable. A CX 750M cable is different, so can't be used. They are proprietary, not universal fit at the psu side, only the gpu side. You can try Google for a custom cable shop, sometimes they do stock replacement cables of the more popular psus. No guarantee though. But you must have exact model. This is very important or you risk damage to psu, mobo, cpu and definitely the gpu.

Yes. And No. In a molex chain, there's only 1x 12v hot wire. At each molex plug, that single yellow wire has a pin on it. Those pins are rated at 5A,at best connection. 5A=(5x12)=60w at most and long periods of maximum usage will create enough heat through that pin, it will melt and possibly burn, starting a fire in the pc. Your gpu is rated at 75w. So any heavy usage is going to see that single molex maxed out. Instant fire hazard.
The molex chain itself is 18guage wire. That's good for @7-8A for a 12" lead at 12v. Any draw higher on that lead will create massive heat at a weak point (usually a connector) = fire hazard.

So 2x things must happen for that molex-pcie to be somewhat safe to use. It Must be 2x molex to 1x 6pin. You MUST use 2x Different power leads, DO NOT use both molex on a single chain. FAILURE = FIRE. No ifs, ands or butts. No exceptions. Also, any prior loads will need to be balanced. If you have a hdd and an optical already on one chain, or several fans, they'll need to be split up to different chains to balance the load between them. So optical + fans on one chain, hdd + fans on the other etc.

With careful planning, Yes you can use an adapter, but as you see, it's not advised nor recommended since chances of misuse are too high for real safety concerns.
