hey guys, i just bought a manufacturer refubished linksys ac1600/ eaEA6400 on ebay. im upgrading from a 2011 linksys e2500 and the new router is sooooo much faster with download speeds. however after a few days something happened with the ac1600 and i started getting lag in my games and then every device got kicked off the network. while my old router was no where near as fast it never had any of these problems.

im gonna keep using the ac1600, i have 30 days to return it if i need to but im wondering what you guys recommend if i end up replacing this router. it doesn't need to be absolute top of the line, just same performance as the ac1600 but minus the bugs ive experienced today. ive got 10 wifi devices on my network, usually 5 or 6 at the same time, and i need strong and powerful range. whats linksys router do you guys recommend? id like to keep it linksys thanks!

It depends what you mean faster. You can never go faster than the internet connection you buy from your ISP when you are talking download from the internet.

The router is only 1/2 your equation when determining the performance. Your end equipment must also support the features. For example does no good to buy a 802.11ac router if your end devices only support 802.11n.

The less obvious is related to the number of antenna being used. To get speeds like 1300 on the 802.11ac they are using 3 overlapping signals. It is not common for end devices to have 3 antenna most only have 2. This means that feature will not be used.

So it depends on what the abilities of your nic cards are to how much you should look at the faster routers. You likely do not want to go past the ones that say 1750 which is 3 stream feeds both on 2.4 and 5g. The router you have did 2 on the 2.4g and 3 on the 5g.

The one that matches most end equipment are the ones that have a 1200m rating. This is 2 antenna on 2.4g and 5g. The cost though of the 1750 though is not much more lately so it is a hard call even if you don't really need the 3 antenna.

The very high end devices are pretty much a bragging contest more anything else. There are almost no devices that support 4 antenna, having 2 5g radios does not increase the speed of a single device since the end device only has 1 radio, and things like mu-mimo are not supported by most end devices. But you do get a very fancy looking router with a big number on the box.

my old router only did wireless n, this new router does ac. im just wondering what the best ac, dual band, affordable linksys router is. just in case this router doesn't end up working out. im looking for recommendations on a specific router. basically the same performance as the ac1600 but maybe more reliable. thanks!

Good luck finding "reliable". This seems to be mostly luck based on what parts the Chinese manufacture put in the week your device was manufactured. Even high end commercial routers have some amount of failure.

I suspect part of you problem is buying refurbished. That device was likely returned and all they did was sell it at a discount to some reseller who did nothing at all to refurbish it and is just gambling most the devices work fine. Most router manufactures do not have facilities to test router...especially since most do not even manufacture their own router to begin with.

You only have about 4 models to choose from on the linksys site. You can read reviews on amazon and newegg. What you are looking for is how many complaints you see about dead or defective routers. You can ignore performance claims since people houses affect that more than the router.

linksys sells a ton of different routers. https://www.linksys.com/us/c/wireless-routers. also online reviews are always mixed for literally every router i look at, all the reviews say the same things too.

if anyone has a personal experience with a linksys router that works great id love to hear recommendations!
