Hey guys, I was just wondering what I can do to be able to run certain games at a higher quality. I'm not the most intelligent when it comes to computers so that's why I'm here asking you guys. Most of the time I have to run at the lowest possible settings to have smooth performance. Is there anything I should add/ upgrade so I can improve performance? I can do my best to give you my specs but I can for sure give you my computer type:

HP - Compaq ENVY Phoenix h9-1350
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s)
12.0 GB Ram (Max 32.0 GB)
Microsoft Windows 10
System type x64-based PC
Chipset: Intel Z75

I've got nothing else, sorry if I sound like an idiot. Any help is appreciated!

Also, you will need a new power supply because whatever came in that computer from the factory was never designed for even a medium end GPU.

You need to realize that the power supply is the most heart of your system and is not the part to cheap out on. All power supplies are not created equally and one 500w will actually be able to handle a 500w load and protect your parts, while a cheap one wont be able to hanlde 300w constant load for long and has no protection circuitry to prevent damaging your computer. Many people on this forum have gone cheap, and got the $25 power supply instead of a $50 one, and ended up with hundreds of dollars of fried parts.

A 1080 is a little overzealous for a 3rd gen i7.
1050ti will make a massive...
dude, a new GPU?
that's the heart of gaming life (not the only thing that matters, but it's the most important)

depending on your budget and your case:
1050ti if u're on a real tight budget
or
1060 3 GB / the 6GB if u can find it at a good price
or
rocking all the way to 1080 which had a pretty stable price despite the mining craze that's happening around

1050ti will make a massive improvement and get you into high settitngs
1060 will let you max out any game at 1080p resolution
1070 is for 1440p OR for faster refresh rate monitors
1080 would be for both or 4k
1080 ti would be for 4k at fast refresh rate.

if this is the PC that OP had, i think the PSU can handle it... for now (600w), although i agree that getting a new PSU is a must later on!

i was going to suggest a 1060/1070, but now that the price right now is pretty volatile, and with a few extra $, u can upgrade that 1070 into 1080, so i don't really see the reason to stop at 1070 (for now)
that's why i suggest either 1050ti (though it's a good upgrade, i don't think it's worth enough to pair a budget GPU with an i7), 1060 3 GB / 6GB if he can find a good rebate, or just jump all the way to 1080
1080ti will be bottlenecked unless he gets a 3770k and OC it

depends on where u lives
local store is usually the most trusted one, since u can see the items physically
online shopping is also a viable choice, like amazon etc, would really recommend to find a trusted / reputable seller
if u're in america, usually it's newegg / amazon
