Frame rates dropping from 60 to 30 then back up to 60

So I've had this PC for about a year and a half and ever since I've had it's been absolutely perfect. I have two gtx 980ti's running SLI and an Intel core i7 5820k cpu with
16gb of ram. I've played almost every game on max settings while usually never dropping below 60fps. (Witcher 3, fallout 4, the division, GR Wildlands, etc.) I hadn't played in a few months and sat down now and it's doing this thing where the fps will drop from 60 to 30 for about 15-20 seconds then will go back up to 60. Will do this about every 3-5 minutes. Same settings as I've used on every game before. Can't seem to figure out what's different now. Even when I lower the settings, same result. I've read online with people having similar issues and other people responding saying disable v-sync. If I disable vsync it just creates an unplayable amount of screen tearing. Also, I never previously had any frame rate issues with vsync enabled.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thats the reason why G-Sync is invented. Its normal for V-Sync to fall back to 30hz, if your system cant provide the 60fps anymore. Maybe overheating issue. Try to lower settings a bit, so you never get below 60hz. But G-Sync should eliminate this problem, as a G-Sync monitor becomes variable hz monitor.
