So my setup used to be Radeon 7770 with fx 4350 (pretty crappy) so I upgraded my gpu to a gtx 970 and later upgraded the cpu to the fx 8350. Here's the problem - I get around 30-40 fps on GTA 5 on normal settings 1080p, while people on YouTube with the same cpu and gpu get a solid 50-60 on ultra. I've updated my bios, got latest drivers etc but nothing works and I'm really getting sick of this. The only thing I can think of is that I have an old motherboard (asus m5a78L-M) but other forums say it doesn't affect anything and the 8350 is fine with it. Any help? Thanks

We'll yes an no. I'm guessing you cannot return the 8350? The only way to get the 8350 working properly is to stick it in a high quality 970 or 990 board but the money spent on that cpu and a high end motherboard would have been better spent on a modern platform. The 8350 only just keeps up with the cheap G4560 in games and the G4560 has excellent upgrade options, the old FM3+ socket and DDR3 RAM of the FX8350 have no upgrade path and are the minimum for several games, it won't hold 60fps in many games. If you cannot return the cpu you may still want to consider selling it and moving to something current generation.

yes it seems to be spiking up and down from 4.04 ghz down to around 2. Would you recommend upgrading the motherboard to resolve the issue?
