Hello! I have a (very) old PC that's crying for an upgrade.

Specs:
AMD Phenom II 1090t
Asus M4A88TD V-EVO USB3
4GB DDR3 @ 1333Mhz
GTX 1050ti (Recent upgrade)

My concern is, whether or not the memory controller on my CPU will work with 8GB memory modules. I've already checked the QVL on my motherboard and there are some 8GB modules listed there so it should be compatible mobo-wise. I'd usually go for 2x4GB but those come at a higher price/GB.

Solution
The CPU certainly supports 8GB sticks - I'm using 2 x 8GB in my 1090T-based secondary PC that I keep at my parents' place. It's a cheapo MSI motherboard (760GA-P43FX) too, which sadly won't POST with ECC RAM and has rubbish fan control.

I can't see that a decent ASUS board would have any issue with 8GB sticks.

Well, it's an ancient CPU and 8GB memory banks weren't a thing at the time, but I've seen mostly mixed responces to this topic, which has only led me to further confusion.

Well, I did more research and looks like there are some people running with a 2x8GB config on Phenom IIs, so that's good news. Apparently most of these CPUs can easily reach 1600MHz OC, so there shouldn't be any issues OCing with 2 memory modules.
