Best upgrade options.

So after a rollercoaster of successes and failures with overclocking my 2500k I've decided to give up. I'm looking for some advice on whether it is a good idea to upgrade to whatever the best cpu is (for gaming) that can fit the 1155 socket as money is a bit tight at the minute so I don't really want to replace the motherboard too. Ive got a GTX 1080 if that has any bearing.
Any advice is appreciated.

3570k * And yes it would be the best CPU for that socket.

Thanks for the replies. I imagine I could get hold of a second hand 3570k easily enough, but would it be worth it performance-wise? Am I better saving for a new generation cpu?

I would persevere with overclocking but for some reason every guide I follow and attempt I make works for a while, then randomly one day I will notice it has reverted to stock and bios will not load my saved configuration, meaning I have to input the whole lot again.
